Fillmore is a small city in the Santa Clara River Valley at the foot of the Topatopa Mountains where the Sespe Condor Sanctuary is located on a range to the north. It is known for its agriculture, in particular, its orange groves. Each year they have a Citrus Festival celebrating the results of the citrus growing.
Established when the Southern Pacific built the railroad through the valley in 1887, the rail line general superintendent was J.A. Fillmore and the town was named after him. With an approximate population of 15,002, it is situation between Santa Paula and Lake Piru. The town has a historic downtown with shops and 20th century architecture. The Railroad Visitor Center has many displayes as well as restored railroad cars.
Western Fillmore has seen a lot of new home development in the past few years and many in Ventura County have found it to be a great smaller community offering more affordable housing.
