Named one of the safest cities by Safewise, Moorpark is one of our favorite communities. Surrounded by agricultural land, it was founded by Robert Poindexter in 1887 and was named after the Moorpark apricot. It currently has a population of approximately 37,044 with 11,092 households.
Major development in the area came in the 1980’s with the development of the Mountain Meadows area and since then there has been continuous development of homes in all price ranges. Yet the feel of the town remains small town and families are drawn to the area for many of its benefits.
It has plentiful parks – 20 in all – with the main park Arroyo Vista offering concerts, 3rd of July fireworks, Easter Egg event and more. It is also known for education and the schools are a big attraction. Their Academic Decathlon Team received the National Championship Title in 1999, 2003, 2008, and 2009. Additionally, Moorpark College provides an accredited two-year program in business, science, performing arts, and vocational studies as well as an one of only two exotic animal training and management program. America’s Teaching Zoo at the school is a local attraction that everyone enjoys.
A Metrolink station is downtown on High Street, the historic center of the city and an area currently being redeveloped. It features the High Street Arts Center (a Performing Arts center operated by the City of Moorpark), and various restaurants and businesses.
Hidden amongst citrus groves, you’ll find Moorpark Country Club, a semi-private country club which offers 27-holes of PGA quality courses, a restaurant and event venue.
