Westlake Village is a small community nestled in the northern end of Los Angeles County at the border with Ventura County. With a population of approximately 8,203, it was originally known as Russell Ranch where any films such Tarzan and tv shows like Gunsmoke and Bonanza were shot.
In 1963, the American-Hawaiian Steamship Company bought the ranch and in partnership with Prudential Insurance Company, developed a master plan known as the “city in the country.” One of the main features of the city is the 125 acre private lake, Westlake Lake, with 8 miles of shoreline. Over 1,300 homes are on the lake or within access of it and lakefront restaurants and a small harbor for electric boats offer the residents a nautical touch to the town.
Another primary area is the North Ranch section which consists of more than 300 custom homes, hillside views and the North Ranch Country Club and golf course. It also has a public course, Westlake Golf Course.
Adjacent to the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, Westlake Village is surrounded by open space and offers trails for hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians.
